A quick 45 minute drive east of Toronto lies one of Ontario’s most unique military attractions: The Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum.
This accredited Canadian Forces Museum, also known as the Tank Museum, is home to the largest collection of operational military vehicles in North America, including heavy and light armoured tanks, and logistics vehicles. There’s also a static museum that tells the story of the Ontario Regiment from 1866, and a massive award-winning conservation centre that’s open to the public, where visitors can look at, touch, and climb inside some of the collection.
The museum also holds monthly Tank Saturday events from spring to fall, and a special Winter Warfare Tank Saturday in February. Visitors can visit the museum, check out vendors, hear expert talks, get up close and personal with military vehicles inside the conservation centre, then watch a live vehicle demonstration complete with simulated battle and a showstopping finale.
Want to get even closer to the museum’s collection? The Tank Museum is also the only place in Canada where visitors can book a ride in a tank of their choice!
The museum is open year round, but operates on reduced hours in winter. Visit their website for admission, hours, and directions.
