What’s On Durham Weekend

Little trick or treaters can check out Halloween Haunt at the Kids Safety Village in Whitby from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26, 2019! The Kids of Durham Region and their parents are all invited to wear their costumes and walk the spooky streets of the Kids’ Safety Village to collect some treats. Free, but donations gratefully accepted.

Join the Clarington Museum for Spirit Walks! Stroll through downtown Bowmanville and hear ghostly tales and chilling history. Running October 15th-19th, 22nd-26th, and 29th-30th. Trafalgar Castle School is excited to host the School’s annual Haunted Castle on Friday, October 25! Tour times run from 5:30 – 7 p.m. and 7:30 – 9 p.m. This spooktacular student-led initiative is open to the community and is expected to bring people out from all over Durham Region for an evening of frightening fun! Proceeds from this event will be donated to Make a Wish Foundation. The event will feature a tour through the Castle where behind every door and creaking floorboard fear awaits. Tickets for the event are $10 (+ convenience fee) per person. Purchase your tickets online IN ADVANCE as NO tickets will be available at the door. Due the scary nature of this event, it is recommended for children over the age of 10. Make a donation of a non-perishable food item and receive a ticket for one free snack. All food items will be donated to Simcoe Hall Settlement House.

The Teen Advisory Committee at the Ajax Public Library has a frightful idea: Halloween Nook Night Out! Enjoy pizza, games, prizes, snacks and have a dreadful good time!  Don’t forget to dress up and enter the costume contest and then dance the night away to our DJ. October 25 at 6:30. Drop in. Ages 13-19.

Head to BooFest in Brooklin, a “not too scary” Halloween festival for families! Enjoy games and crafts, plus local vendors. October 26 2019. Brooklin Community Center, 8 Vipond Road 1:00 – 3:30. 

The York Durham Heritage Railway presents the Wizarding Festival! This weekend festival brings to life the Wizarding World filled with interactive shows, potions classes, maze, magic shows, and workshops on how to defend yourself against the Dark Enemy. That skill will be particularly useful as the fun continues for premium ticket holders on the Hallows Express, where a journey to GOODWOODORA Prison reveals two evil wizards are hatching an escape plan. It’s up to the train passengers and the professors on board to help the ministry secretly transport these evil sorcerers to a more secure location to await their trials. Will the mission be successful? Only time will tell! Make sure you come early to take a walk through our Enchanted Alley! Come in costume, no muggles attire! This event is great for families, or visit our 19+ area and get your fill of our wizards brew! Don’t forget to check our Hagrid’s hut with exotic animals!

Parkwood Estate National Historic Site is hosting the Servant’s Life Experience! The servants experience allows visitors to see the service space of the estate, the servants dining hall, the butlers keep, the suite of the head housekeeper, and the third floor spaces occupied by many of the female servants from 1917 to 1972 Please note that a series of stairs are required to access this tour The 90 minute tour is $15 + HST per person. October 26 2019. 10:30 am.

Head to the LivingRoom Community Art Studio for a Zine making jam with local artist and maker Samantha Ouellette! Bring creativity, and that Zine idea you’ve been thinking about and wanting to get to work on, and prepare to self publish something awesome! Then stay for a community exhibit & sale of work inspired by all things October! Wear your favourite costume, celebrate a range of local artists in this micro exhibit and take home some super cool artwork that celebrates the season!
