R.S. McLaughlin was a leader in the automotive industry, so join the Oshawa Museum on an Industrial-themed guided tour of Oshawa’s Union Cemetery. August 3 2019. $5/person, meet at King Street Gates, 2 p.m 760 King St. West, Oshawa.
Head to the home of the McLaughin Family: Parkwood Estate National Historic Site for Basement Tour Weekend! This popular tour takes visitors through restricted and rarely-seen parts of R.S. McLaughlin’s family estate. Tours run on demand, but there are stairs that need to be negotiated to access the basement spaces of the mansion. No advance booking required. 270 Simcoe Street North. 10:30 am to 4 pm. $15 per person, regardless of age. Recommended for ages 10+. Tours begin August 3 and run throughout the week.
Join a downtown Oshawa automotive walking tour! Oshawa has been home to the McLaughlin Carriage Company, McLaughlin Motor Company, and General Motors of Canada, but today only a few remnants of the city’s former industrial past remain in the downtown core. Expert guides from the Canadian Automotive Museum will explore the streetscape and bring to life the people and places that made Oshawa “Canada’s Motor City.” This event is included with regular museum admission, members free. Swim at Camp Samac out door pool for free! R.S. McLaughlin donated the property to Scouts Canada 76 years ago, and the pool is now run by the City of Oshawa. August 5 2019. Check website for times.
