Canada Day isn’t just about fireworks! July 1 2019 celebrations at Lakeview Park are FREE and start at 2 pm with live music and entertainment, a carnival midway with games and rides (these cost extra, so take some cash!), a Family Zone that operates between 2 pm and 6 pm that’s complete with a small zoo, arts and crafts, face painting, jumping castles, sports experiences, a Beach Zone, and more!
Need to cool off? The splash pad in the childrens’ playground will be open, as will the beach. There are more activities in the Beach Zone, including volleyball, Sounds of Steel, sand sculptures, and vehicles from the Ontario Regiment Museum. If you need a break from the activities in the park, the historical houses that make up the Oshawa Museum will also be open for tours.
Fireworks start around 10 pm off the shore of Lake Ontario!
Parking is available only for vehicles with a Ministry issued Accessibility permit, but bus shuttles from the Oshawa Centre begin at 1 pm and leave every 15 minutes until 9:15 pm. (accessible buses will be available). Following the fireworks, shuttle buses will return to the Oshawa Centre with connections to select Oshawa bus routes. Bus shuttles from Lakeview Park will leave every 15 minutes until all attendees have received a ride back to the Oshawa Centre. A free bike corral located at the fenced ball diamond in Lakeview Park will provide cyclists with an area to lock up their bikes from 1 pm until 11 pm.
Packed lunches and pre-cooked foods are welcome, but alcohol, campfires and cooking devices are a no-no. Plus, due to large crowds, the City would like pets left at home.
