What’s On Oshawa Weekend January 27 & 28 2018

Head to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery for Artist Talk: Andil Gosine. The artist will lead a walking tour of his exhibition, which revisits artefacts from his high school years in Oshawa. Betwixt & Between: An Untold Tom Thomson Story opens Saturday at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery! Including 20 original works by Tom Thomson and augmented reality to take you deeper into the story. January 27 2018. 72 Queen Street, Oshawa. FREE. 

The Ontario Philharmonic presents Mahler’s Celestial Fourth with Maija Kovaļevska.  The heavenly voice of this world-renowned Opera Diva is the ticket of the year, and is Ms Kovaļeska’s Canadian debut!  January 27 2018. 8 pm. $45/$56. 50 King Street East, Oshawa. 

It’s closing night for The Other Place by the Durham Shoestring Performers! Juliana Smithton is a successful scientist whose life suddenly takes a left turn. Her husband is filing for divorce, her research assistant has run off with her daughter, and to top it off, she has brain cancer…maybe. Or is everything not quite as it seems? As Juliana navigates through shards of memory, she can’t escape a truth that is far more challenging. Dream Bloom is offering Tropical Terrarium Making Workshop, using a closed terrarium and tropical plants that thrive in a humid environment. A closed terrarium is self sustaining and requires little maintenance. The Oshawa Museum hosts Tea & Talk I Spy: The Oshawa Museum Photo Collection. Many photos that exist in the world are of mundane events and simple people, places and things – until you zoom in on the photo! Using photos from the Museum’s Archival collection, we will look at early photo bombs, crude photo shopping, and even clear up some long-standing myths about Robinson House.  Tea and scones will be served at 1 pm.
