Review: The Portly Piper

Today’s Take Your Kids to Work day, so I’m staying home and helping my mom write reviews.

Today we went to the Oshawa location of The Portly Piper, a sports bar at the corner of King and Wilson (where the El Stavro’s used to be). Overall, it was very nice. Everything was clean and it looked like an upscale sports bar.  There was nice wood panelling on the walls and it was well-lit. There was a small TV in every booth and a few others on the walls. Though it’s not located near any offices, it was quite busy. The service was friendly  and welcoming. They were accommodating and even made suggestions.

The food was served in large portions, it was well priced (most lunch sandwiches were around $10, and come with the choice of salad, soup, french fries, or onion rings), and it was delicious! Fish on a Bun was a generous portion of haddock on a bun with a large side. The French Grilled Cheese was basically a panini grilled cheese on french bread. It was very cheesy (with swiss, provolone, cheddar and mozzarella!) and scrumptious, and, because I’m a vegetarian, they were happy to make it without the onions, mushrooms and bacon. The french fries and onion rings were tasty and still warm and crispy when they reached our table.

So, would we go back? Because of the nice atmosphere, friendly service and good food, the answer is definitely yes!

The Portly Piper is located at 557 King St East, Oshawa.
