Beat the dog days of summer with musicals, a 1/4 marathon, and an urban farm tour!

Start the weekend early with Yoga in the historic gardens of the Oshawa Museum, led by members of the Durham Yogi Community! July 21 2017. Lakeview Park, 1450 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. 10 am. FREE, but donations to the Museum are gratefully accepted. Drop in, no registration required. Please bring your own mat and water.

Upscale Theatre Company’s Youth Group presents Disney’s The Lion King JR! Come stretch your peaceful muscles with your family and friends at Yoga for Peace at the Mary Street YMCA! This class is FREE and open to the public, and it’s in support of Making Peace Toronto. Lace up your running shoes! It’s the annual Durham 1/4 Marathon supporting homeless youth at The Refuge. Over 800 runners and 1200 participants are expected, so don’t miss it! Sounds too hard? This is an “out-only” run, which means runners face a net downhill route along the scenic creeks and waterfront vistas finishes at the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario. Learn how to be water safe at Drowning Prevention Day, where the City of Oshawa is hosting a number of events at local pools to raise awareness of water safety. Activities will be offered at all of Oshawa’s pools and Lakeview Park Beach during public swim hours, including some giveaways.  July 22 2017. Various times/locations. Included with pool admission. 

Grab a lawn chair and join The Oshawa Civic Band at the Oshawa Museum for an afternoon of “Under the Boardwalk” themed brass band music for the third annual Music in the Gardens! This is presented in partnership with the Oshawa Museum and the Oshawa Civic Band. July 22 2017. 1:30 pm to 3 pm. Oshawa Museum, 1450 Simcoe Street South, Lakeview Park, Oshawa.  FREE. 

The Canadian Jamaican Club of Oshawa presents Canada 150 Island Style! Activities include music, dance, drumming, a fresh food marketplace, craft displays, food demonstration, and a live concert.  July 22, 2017.  Memorial Park, Oshawa. 11 am to 8 pm. FREE. 

It’s time for the Urban Farm Tour and Harvest Feast, hosted by We Grow Food! Visit some of Oshawa’s most interesting and beautiful vegetable gardens, and meet the local urban farmers who care for them. Nine private gardens will be featured, along with three local neighbourhood gardens which will host family-friendly activities. Harvest Feast at 5 pm with live music at Memorial Park in downtown Oshawa. All of the food will be sourced from Urban Farm Tour participants and other local farmers.
