The City of Oshawa presents the 13th annual Peony Festival! This free event displays 300 types of peonies in the gardens and 100’s more inside Children’s Arena. Artisans, live music, food, gardening seminars, community displays and more are all part of this festival. Plus visit the What’s On Oshawa table and enter to win TWO giveaways from local businesses! The Canadian Automotive Museum hosts the Cars & Cupcakes Walking Tour, a new tour highlighting the history of automotive manufacturing in downtown Oshawa. Downtown Oshawa has been home to the McLaughlin Carriage Company, McLaughlin Motor Company, and General Motors of Canada, but today only a few remnants of the city’s former industrial past remain in the downtown core. Expert guides will explore the streetscape and bring to life the people and places that made Oshawa “Canada’s Motor City.” Tour includes coffee and cupcake from Cupcake Goodness. June 10 2017. 10 am to 12 pm. Tour begins at the Canadian Automotive Museum, 149 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. Tickets can be pre-purchased online or at the museum the day of the tour for $15+HST. Spend the day with Oshawa’s local firefighters at Community Fire Safety Day! Learn about fire safety, meet the firefighters, take a fire truck tour, and watch safety demonstrations. It’s Tank Saturday at the Ontario Regiment Museum, where the kick off theme is Operation Desert Storm, the Gulf War. Watch a live vehicle demonstration with tanks and armoured vehicles! Military vehicle rides available on-site during the day (additional cost). Admission includes access to the museum that houses artifacts, medals, weapons and uniforms covering 150 years of military history from the Fenian Raids of 1866 to the conflicts of today. Visit the vehicle bay to get up-close with the large collection of military vehicles and Tanks, and see Gulf War Tanks and military vehicles that actually participated in the 1991 conflict!
