What’s On Oshawa – March Break 2017

Twenty-four artists receive a scant 24-hours to write, rehearse and perform six site-specific plays in Whitby’s beautiful 19th century castle – Trafalgar.  TRAFALGAR 24 is a theatrical event unlike any other, where the audience is right on top of the action as each of the 10-minute scripts play out around them in locations throughout the castle. At TRAFALGAR 24 audience members play a vital role of their own, helping to select one winning play to receive a commission for further development from Driftwood Theatre.  March 10, 2017.  6:30pm Silent Auction, 7:30pm Performances. The Canadian Automotive Museum is offering drop-in activities and crafts  for families throughout the week and tour guides will be available daily at 1pm!  Regular admission rates apply, members free. March 10 – 19, 2017. 99 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. Check website for hours of operation. Adults $10, children $5, under 5s FREE. 

The Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival runs throughout March Break, and weekends until April 2! See how maple syrup was made over 400 years ago through to the modern methods of today, take a horse-drawn wagon ride and enjoy some hot pancakes.  March 11-19, March 25-26, April 1-2. 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.  38 Coates Road East, Oshawa. Please enter via Simcoe Street. Tickets $5, under 2s FREE. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Wagon rides and pancakes extra, cash only.

It’s March Break at the Oshawa Museum! Dress up like a Victorian child, learn to write on slates, but don’t get sent to the corner! The Museum’s schoolmarms and masters will show you how to mind your manners and remind you of the rules for students from 1867. March 13-17, 2017. Drop in between 9 am – 3 pm. $5 per child.  

Visit the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum on the March Break!  Explore the permanent collection and learn about the 150 years of service of the Ontario Regiment, or check out the Tank Display Bay and see a large selection of operational military vehicles from a 1941 MB Jeep to Armoured Personnel Carriers and modern Battle Tanks!  “Tank Talk” at 1 pm daily about the history and operation of a vehicle in our collection.  And visit Wednesday or Saturday and you may even see one of the vehicles on the move! Celebrate the Festival of Colour at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery! This third annual RMG event celebrates Holi (a spring festival, also known as the festival of colour).  Create art inspired by colour including beautiful paper collages, experiment with warm and cool colours to create unique greeting cards and design patterned art inspired by Rangoli, and at 1:30 pm watch performances by Bhangra dancers.  March 13, 2017. It’s OPG March Break Madness at the Kids Safety Village of Durham Region! Children can learn about safety in the outdoor, kid-sized village. March 14, 2017, 10 am to 2 pm. 1129 Athol St., Whitby. FREE.

It’s Family Fun at the Farm! Head to WindReach Farm for a day of snowshoeing, wagon rides and a campfire, plus make crafts and meet the farm animals. March 16, 2017. 10 am to 2 pm. WindReach Farm, 312 Townline Road, Ashburn.  FREE, but a $20 donation to the Farm is appreciated.
