Ready to take on 2016? Here’s what’s happening on New Year’s Day:
Jump into Lake Ontario at the annual Rotary Club of Oshawa’s Polar Bear Swim at Lakeview Park Beach! Swimmers will hit the water at 1 pm, then warm up with hot chocolate and chicken soup around a fire. To register, or for more information, contact Rhonda VanderLinde.
Go for a spin round the rink at the Legends Centre! Parent and Tot Skate runs from 12 pm to 12:50pm, Family Skate from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, and Public Skate from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. Regular admission fees apply.
Take a day trip to the Toronto Zoo! It’s open 364 days a year, including New Years Day, and is full of birds, animals (pandas! white lion cubs!), fish and reptiles. Hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, tickets are $23 for Adults, $14 for children ages 3 to 12, and children under 2 are free. Parking is $12. From Oshawa, take the 401 west to the Meadowvale exit, go north on Meadowvale, and follow the zoo signs.
