What’s On in Oshawa: September 15 – 30

RMG Juried ShowLocal artists, the UOIT Distinguished Speaker Series, and an opera.  Yes, this is Oshawa! Check it out:

Visit the opening reception of the the annual Oshawa Art Association’s Juried Show at the RMG!  Date: September 17.  Location:  72 Queen Street. Time:  7 pm. Cost: FREE.  Runs until October 4.  

Head to the Ontario Regiment Museum for Tank Saturday!  See the Museum’s tanks on the move and in action.  What’s there?  Tanks, trucks and armored vehicles used by the Ontario Regiment from period 1943 – 1999, plus live demonstrations of M3 Stuart Light Tank, M4 Sherman, M113 LYNX, and many more at 11 am and 1 pm.  Date:  September 19.  Location:  1000 Stevenson Road North.  Time:  9 am to 12 pm.  Cost: $5.  

Join the UOIT Faculty of Business and Information Technology for An Evening with Bill Marshall, part of the Distinguished Speaker Series.  Marshall is one of the most respected and accomplished producers in the film industry and founder and first director of the Toronto International Film Festival. He will share his stories of troubles and triumphs in film, television, writing and politics. Marshall will be interviewed by Peter Howell of the Toronto Star Speakers Bureau.  Date: September 24.  Location:  UOIT Regent Theatre, 50 King Street East.  Time:  Doors open at 7 pm.  Cost:  $20 per ticket, UOIT students and alumni with valid ID.  For an additional $20, guests can attend a VIP session with Bill Marshall and other distinguished guests following the event.    

Culture Days are back with a full weekend of activities celebrating Oshawa’s vibrant cultural scene. Events include an evening of performing arts featuring Please and Thanks, Doors Open Oshawa, an Art Intervention at City Hall, and the Glow Art Battle Finale!  Date: September 25 to 27. Location: various.  Cost:  FREE.  

From September 25-27 celebrate the first Durham Region Film Festival connecting audiences with the riches of cinema. Learn the tricks and experience the magic of film, on-screen and behind the scenes at two exciting locations in Durham, plus a gala screening and family day.  Date: September 25 – 27.  Location:  UOIT Regent Theatre and Docville Wild West Movie Set in Clarington.  Time: Various.  Cost:  Gala evening $10, festival pass $40.  

Enjoy family fun at the Conant Complex Neighbourhood Fair, organized by the Oshawa Community Health Centre!  Face painting, a bouncy castle, petting zoo, fire trucks, police cars, pony rides and more – and it’s all free!  Date:  September 26.  Time:  11 am to 3 pm.  Location:  115 Grassmere Ave.  Cost:  FREE. 

Didn’t you know?  Oshawa has opera!  Save yourself the drive to Toronto (and the parking fees), because Oshawa Opera will be performing Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica.   Date: September 27.  Location:  Kingsview United Church, 505 Adelaide Avenue East.  Time:  3 pm.  Cost:  $25, children FREE.
