Free & Cheap Things to do September 8 – 11

Watch the world’s first climatic blues performance in the ACE (Automotive Centre of Excellence) Wind Tunnel!  Toronto’s Soulstack brings their unique sound to UOIT for a free performance.  Date: September 8. Location:  UOIT, 2000 Simcoe Street North.  Time:  12 pm to 1:30 pm.  Cost:  FREE

For most families, back to school means saying goodbye to late summer bedtimes and hello to an earlier sleep routine.  Parents can bring all their baby and toddler sleep issues to Erin Oliveira from Good Night Sleep Site Durham, who will be on hand to answer all your sleepy-time questions.  Date:  September 8.  Location:  Chapters at the Oshawa Centre.  Time:  7 pm.   Cost:  FREE.

Catch the 2014 film Salt of the Earth (PG) at Northview Public Library. Date: September 10.  Location:  250 Beatrice Street.  Time:  2 pm.  Cost:  FREE, no registration required, just show up.  Restricted to 18+.

It’s not cheap, but Canadian music icons the Tea Party are bringing songs from their latest album and fan favourites to the Regent Theatre.  Date:  September 10.  Location:  50 King Street East.  Time:  8 pm.  Cost:  $40.

But this is cheap:  head to the Moustache Club for sets from In Flight Safety and Rhyme Jaws.  Date: September 10. Location:  15 Simcoe Street South.  Time:  Doors open at 9pm.  Cost:  $5 cover.

The Rotary Club of Oshawa’s 14 Annual Ribfest rolls into Lakeview Park, with ribbers from all over Ontario and the US, plus vendors and live music.  Check out our Guide to Ribfest before you go, and grab a $3 off half rib dinner coupon from their website (conditions apply).  Date:  September 11 to 13.  Time:  12 pm to 12 am.  Cost:  FREE.

It’s the Back to School edition of RMG Fridays!  Enjoy live music, dance, film and art experiences at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, plus there’s a cash bar with a generous pour.  Date:  September 11. Location:  72 Queen Street. Time: 7 pm to 10 pm.  Cost:  FREE.
