Don’t let the mid-summer blues get you down.  There are lots of Free & Cheap events to keep everyone busy this week! 

Tuesday August 4 

For the first time in Parapan Am Games history, two separate Parapan Am torches have been lit, and are making their way to be reunited in Toronto at the Opening Ceremonies.  See the Parapan Am torch and support our Parapan Am athletes at Lakeview Park between 6 pm and 7 pm as the relay passes through Oshawa.   Cost:  FREE.

Wednesday, August 5

Gallery A at the RMG opens a new exhibit by father-and-son artists Joseph Catalano and Matthew Catalano called  Arbor Nimbus.  Time:  10 am to 5 pm (9 pm on Thursdays), weekends 12pm to 4pm.  Cost:  FREE.

Thursday, August 6

Head to Culture Squared in front of City Hall for an early evening of local art and music, and check out RedVIOLET, who hits the stage at 6 pm.  Time:  5 pm to  7:30 pm.  Cost:  FREE.

The Professors of Funk get their groove on at Memorial Park!  Head to Simcoe Street South between John and Metcalfe to enjoy a summer evening of music.  Time:  7 pm to 8:30 pm.  Cost:  FREE.

Music not your thing?  Elaine Charal can analyze your handwriting instead.  Find out what your writing says about you and why you dislike live music, at the Northview Branch of the Oshawa Public Library.  Time:  6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  Cost:  FREE.  Registration required.

Friday, August 7

Visit RMG Fridays for the opening reception of father-and-son artists Joseph Catalano and Matthew Catalano’s show in Gallery A: Arbor Nimbus, plus live music and art experiences.  Location:  72 Queen Street.  Time:  7 pm to 10 pm.  Cost:  FREE.

Carol Pope hits the stage at the Atria for an acoustic set.  Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.  Location:  59 King Street East.  Time:  8 pm, show starts at 8:30 pm.

Wasted Space host Toronto’s The Black Fever for a night of gazey indie-pop/indie-rock with hypnotic vocals, plus sets by Recluse and Whales and Bishops.  Time:  9 pm to 2 am.  Location:  74 Celina Street.  Cost:  $5.
