Free & Cheap Things to do August 1 – 2

In celebration of McLaughlin Day, Parkwood Estate is offering weekend tours of one of the estate’s restricted access areas – the basement.  While the McLaughlins were in residence,the basement was the industrial plant of the mansion, and this weekend visitors can take part in guided tours of the laundry facilities, cannery, boilers and the wine cellar.  Location: 270 Simcoe Street North.  Time:  10:30 am to 5 pm.  Cost:  $10 per person, plus tax.  Date:  August 1 – 3.

Feeling crafty?  Visit The Living Room Community Arts Studio to make wish flags and dream weavings.  To register or for more information, email info@livingroomcommunityartstudio.org.  Location:  149 Simcoe Street South.  Time:  2 pm to 4 pm.  Date:  August 1.  Cost:  pay what you can.

Check out Craft Beer Saturdays at Victory Cigars, featuring Oshawa’s own Underdog’s Brewhouse.  Free beer samples will be available, as well as food for purchase.  For cigar aficionados, Don Salvatore will be making an appearance.  Call Kevin at 905-443-0193 for more information.  Location:  215 King Street East.  Time:  12 pm to 4 pm.  Date:  August 1.  Cost: Free.

Sunday FUNday at the Oshawa Community Museum means heading outside to their heritage gardens and trying out garden weaving.  Drop in, no pre-registration required.  Location:  1450 Simcoe Street South.  Time:  12 pm to 4 pm.  Date:   August 2.  Cost:  Free, with a $5.00 suggested donation.
