Where to Eat Cheap in Oshawa

DeluxeWhen you just can’t take another trip through those golden arches, try these instead:

Lakeview Burger:  South Oshawa’s best kept secret, Lakeview Burger serves traditional diner favourites to a family crowd, including bargain-priced breakfasts and a premium poutine menu with variations like Mac n’ Cheese Poutine, Chicken and Ring Poutine, and Breakfast Poutine.  For smaller appetites, check out the Bargain Menu, with kid-friendly classics like grilled cheese and hotdogs.  Open Monday to Sunday, 8 am to 10 pm.  Located at 1076 Cedar Street.

Malinee’s Thai House:  This tiny, seven-table Thai restaurant, tucked away in a strip mall on Taunton Road is a favourite with diners for both the food and the prices.  Red curry and Tom Yum soup are popular, but the adventurous can ask Malinee for a personal recommendation.  The menu is also available for take out.  Hours:  Monday to Friday 11 am to 9 pm, Saturday 1 pm to 8 pm. Location:  300 Taunton Road East.

Berry Hill Food Company:  When the weather is fine, head to this local gem for breakfast on the hidden patio. Serving healthy gourmet food from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm (closing at 3:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday), it’s for the breakfast and lunch crowd, but definitely worth the early rise on Saturday morning. Call 905-240-9055 for more information. Location:  82 King St. West.

The Table:  This Downtown Oshawa favourite proves that eating healthy food doesn’t have to break the bank.  The Table provides diners with scratch-made, locally sourced whole foods and a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes, which are all clearly labeled on the menu. Open from Monday to Friday 7 am to 5 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. Location: 20 Simcoe St. South.
